OUR COMMITMENT TO ACCESSIBILITY:
ACCESSIBLE CLIENT SERVICE PLAN

We respect the dignity and independence of people with disabilities. We are committed to creating a barrier-free environment that promotes equal opportunity for everyone that accesses our programs and services.

The Ontario government enacted the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act in 2005. This act lays the framework for the development of province-wide mandatory standards on accessibility in all areas of daily life. Click here for more information.

Bridgeway Family Homes is committed to excellence by all members (Staff, Foster Parents, Independent Contractors, Volunteers, Students) in providing goods and services to all clients including people with disabilities.

ASSISTIVE DEVICES

We will ensure all members are trained and familiar with various assistive devices that may be used by clients with disabilities while accessing our goods or services. For example, wheelchairs, scooters, computer software and hardware, etc.

COMMUNICATION

We will communicate with clients with disabilities in ways that take into account their disability.

SERVICE ANIMALS

We welcome clients with disabilities and their service animals. Service animals are allowed on the parts of our premises that are open to the public. If we cannot easily identify the animal as a service animal, we will ask clients to provide documentation from a regulated health professional which documents what the reason is for the service animal.

SUPPORT PERSONS

A client with a disability who is accompanied by a support person will be allowed to have that support person accompany them on our premises. Fees will not be charged for support persons for admission to Bridgeway Family Homes premises.

NOTICE OF TEMPORARY DISRUPTION

In the event of a planned or unexpected disruption to services or facilities for clients with disabilities, Bridgeway Family Homes will notify clients promptly. This clearly posted notice will include information about the reason for the disruption, its anticipated length of time, and a description of alternative facilities or services, if available. The notice will be placed at our Head Office: 4044 County Road #45, Cobourg, ON, K9A 0X2

TRAINING FOR MEMBERS

Bridgeway Family Homes provides all members with exactly the same training on Accessible Client Service. In order to meet all requirements, Bridgeway Family Homes provides individualized training in order to meet any specific client’s needs. Members will also be trained when changes are made to our Accessible Client Service Plan.
